What Jamie’s Computers Does: Discover Jamie’s Computers’ IT Recycling Services
What Jamie’s Computers Does
Accepting Donations & Collecting Equipment
We accept unwanted IT equipment from individuals, schools, businesses and public sector bodies. Items such as laptops, desktops, tablets, phones, monitors, printers and accessories can be donated. Donors may drop off equipment or arrange collection. If five or more items are being collected, the collection is free; fewer items incur a small fee.
Secure Data Erasure & Asset Tracking
Any storage media on donated devices is handled with stringent security. We use certified software (such as Blancco) to erase data in line with recognised standards. If a device fails to meet those standards, it is physically destroyed to ensure data cannot be recovered. Asset tracking is provided so donors can see what happens to their equipment.
Refurbishment, Repair & Resale
Devices that are functional or reasonably upgradeable are refurbished by skilled technicians. This may include replacing parts, updating software or carrying out repairs to restore full functionality. Refurbished items are then sold in the in-house shop or via the website.
Ethical Recycling Of Unusable Electronics
Items that cannot be refurbished are dismantled, sorted by material type and passed to certified recycling facilities. Nothing is sent to landfill; all materials are either reused, up-cycled or recycled properly.
The Direct Impact Of Our Services
By giving unwanted IT equipment a second life, Jamie’s Computers helps reduce electronic waste and lessen the environmental impact associated with mining, manufacturing and disposal of materials.
For many people who donate their devices, the process delivers more than just recycling. It supports the Society of St James’s work: providing supported housing, mental health and addiction services, job training and other support to people facing homelessness or related challenges.
