Preparing Your IT Assets for Collection: A Quick Guide

Thank you for choosing to donate your IT equipment to Jamie’s Computers. By donating, you are helping us prevent e-waste, provide digital skills training and get technology into the hands of those who need it most.

To help our collection team work safely and efficiently and to ensure we can maximise the value of your donation, please review our below preparation checklist before our arrival:

1. Crucial: Remove Remote Device Management & iCloud Locks

Before we arrive, all devices must be completely disassociated from your organisation’s management networks and user accounts. If a device is locked, it impedes our ability to refurbish or resell it, which means it cannot raise vital funds for our charity.

Please ensure your IT team has removed:

  • Windows Devices: Deregister from Microsoft Intune / Windows Autopilot.

  • Apple Devices (Macs, iPads, iPhones): Remove from Apple Business Manager (ABM) and ensure all individual iCloud / "Find My" accounts are signed out.

  • Android Devices: Ensure all Google Accounts and Mobile Device Management (MDM) profiles are removed.

2. How to Package Your Equipment

To ensure a swift and safe pickup, please organise your assets into a convenient, easily accessible location on your ground floor (or a location with lift access):

  • Desktops, PCs, and Servers: Please stack these safely and securely. Avoid making stacks too high or unstable for a single driver to handle.

  • Loose Data Media (HDDs, SSDs, M.2 drives): Any loose hard drives must be gathered and stored together inside a secure, contained space or box. (Note: All data will still undergo our strict, certified data-wiping process upon arrival at our facility).

  • Cables and Accessories: Please bundle cables, power leads, keyboards, and mice into separate bags or boxes rather than leaving them loose or tangled around the machines.

3. On-Site Assistance

Our drivers often work solo and manage tight schedules across Hampshire and the South of England. Having a member of your team available on-site to guide the driver to the collection point and assist with loading (where appropriate) is always incredibly appreciated!

Questions? If you have any concerns about preparing your assets or clearing device management profiles, please contact us at enquiries@jamies.org.uk or call 023 8063 2198.
