WEEE can usually be defined as, most, products that are battery or plug operated. There is a more defined list with multiple categories that can be found here. At Jamie’s Computers we do collect and receive lots of WEEE Waste, list here. The WEEE symbol (shown right to this text) indicates that the product should not be discarded as unsorted waste. But, must be sent to separate collection facilities for recovery and recycling.

For all businesses, it is now a legal requirement to dispose of your computers and electronic equipment. This has to be done legally with Waste Transfer notes, with a Authorised Recycler.

It is incredibly important to correctly dispose and recycle your WEEE waste. All electrical waste contains chemicals that are harmful to the environment. When WEEE waste is dumped into landfills products will decay and leak toxins into the earth and our water systems. With this happening it can lead to the toxins then entering our food chain. This is why it is incredibly important to dispose of this waste correctly.

There are many benefits of WEEE Recycling. The most obvious, of course, would be reducing the amount of harmful toxins and chemicals into earth and water. Another huge benefit is recycling the products for parts. Rather than using raw materials to make new products. This then helps decrease levels of greenhouse gases. For example, Jamie’s Computers receive donations and collections of IT equipment. They then break the product into parts, salvage what we can and dispose of it correctly and ethically. Then they refurbish the product where can and then sell it in store or online. All the profits made will go into investing the charity The Society of St James.

At Jamie’s Computers we provide waste transfer notes that are approved by the Environment Agency. We have a T11 exemption certificate as a fully waste facility.
